Our goal is to provide comprehensive eye and vision services in a truly caring manner. We pride ourselves on understanding the different needs of individuals of all ages.
Our story begins in 1952, when Dr. Herbert "Ted" Halliday began his practice of optometry. Over the next 35 years, he developed a loyal patient base by caring for the people of the Carlisle area. Dr. Yorkgitis joined the practice in 1983 and introduced specialty children's care and vision therapy as new services. In 1988, Dr. Grieneisen came aboard and brought with him additional general optometric and vision therapy knowledge. In 2002, the practice moved to its current location on State Avenue. It has been a pleasure to serve our community in such a convenient and modern facility.

Wayne M. Yorkgitis, O.D. FCOVD
Dr. Yorkgitis was born and raised in Pittsburgh. He is a Pitt alum and a die hard Steeler fan. Dr. Yorkgitis graduated from The Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1979. Following graduation he was selected for a residency position in the Pediatric & Vision Therapy Department at The Eye Institute in Philadelphia. In addition to his teaching and clinical duties, he participated in a research project at Einstein Hospital investigating "Visual Deficits in Stroke & Brain Injury".
In 1980, Dr. Yorkgitis accepted a teaching position at The Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. As an assistant professor, Dr. Yorkgitis taught pediatrics & vision therapy to interns in both the classroom and the clinical setting. Dr Yorkgitis was director of the residency program, and also had the opportunity to do research which centered on children with "crossed" or "lazy" eyes.
During his academic years, Dr. Yorkgitis published, lectured, and conducted workshops for optometrists and occupational therapists. Most of these teaching concerned topics related to vision therapy for children with strabismus and learning problems, and rehabilitation of adults who suffered stroke or brain injury.
After several years of teaching, Dr. Yorkgitis married Michele Melnyk and they moved to Carlisle to start a family and begin private practice. Dr. Yorkgitis continued to pursue his interests in vision therapy and rehabilitation. He achieved fellowship in COVD, optometry's certifying body for vision therapy, and took a consulting position at HEALTHSOUTH Rehabilitation Center.
Currently, Dr. Yorkgitis is enjoying a comfortable balance between caring for his patients and spending time with his family and friends.
